World Hunger Action Month
Stop Hunger Now is proud to be leading the 4th annual World Hunger Action Month this October, in honor of World Food Day which is commemorated annually on October 16. World Hunger Action Month is a chance to raise awareness around hunger and empower you to join our mission to create a world without hunger. Stop Hunger Now aims to actively engage and empower everyone by providing them the opportunity to make a difference through volunteering, advocacy, or donating on behalf of the world's hungry.
We see World Hunger Action Month as the perfect motivation to energize the volunteer community to act, “be a hero,” and make an impact. World Hunger Action Month is the time to organize a packaging event for the upcoming months, donate to Stop Hunger Now and advocate on behalf of those who are served by Stop Hunger Now meals. World Hunger Action Month creates the platform to motivate the community to make a difference in a life by making cash or in-kind donations to the food-insecure of the world, changing their future today.
Week 3: ACT
The most important word in World Hunger Action Month is Action. Acting goes beyond just volunteering (although that works, too!). It can mean buying your groceries at the local farmers market to support your farming neighbors, your local economy and our environment. It's planning a dinner party with your closest friends to show them how 805 million people live -- if they're lucky enough to receive aid -- every day. It's raising your voice against injustice. You can probably name just as many opportunities to give back that ultimately help change the universe. Think about it and you'll realize that we all have opportunities to do it, every day. Now we just need to act on them.
Week 2: EDUCATE
Education is the first step to understanding and thoroughly addressing any issue -- and world hunger is no different. As misconceptions continue to circulate and spread, we urge you to learn the facts for yourself. Here's a good place to start: www.stophungernow.org/hunger-facts. But remember!: all the education won't solve world hunger unless we all resolve to share and act on it. We challenge you to tweet the fact that speaks most strongly to you and use your social media networks for the greater social good.
Week 1: PLAN
Take a moment to remember the last time you were hungry. Did you feel tired? Irritable? Unfocused? It’s hard to fathom that today this feeling is a daily reality for 805 million people. Because hunger is not an issue that is given a spotlight often, you might be surprised to learn that it kills more people each year than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.
The good news is that hunger is a solvable problem. And we can all, in our distinct and special way, become part of the solution. Take this week to plan how you'll put the action in World Hunger Action Month -- whether that means planning your meal packaging event, planning a gift of in-kind aid alongside your company or planning a fundraiser so we can bring relief to communities who need it most. By making a plan, you're holding yourself accountable to live up to the potential we know is inside of you -- the potential to be a world changer.
