What We Do

We package and ship meals to feed people in need. We have engaged over millions of corporate, student, civic and faith-based volunteers to package meals. We educate thousands of people each year about hunger and inspire them to help end it. This year, we will package 45 million meals, and ship over $9 million in donated aid, mainly vitamins and medical supplies.

What Is Meal Packaging?

It is an immensely fun, hands-on and rewarding experience for anyone of any age. A group of 40 to 50 volunteers can package 10,152 meals in about two hours. To get started in organizing your packaging event, set a goal for the number of meals you will package and contact your local program coordinator. Start to recruit volunteers based on the number of meals you plan to package. Then you can begin to fund your event. All you need to raise is 29 cents for each meal you package.

How Does This Help?

Stop Hunger Now meals are nutritiously sound. Every dehydrated rice/soy meal is fortified with 23 essential vitamins and nutrients. Research has shown that one in three people in developing countries are adversely affected by vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Addressing the problem of hunger is the single point where we can leverage relief for all humanitarian issues.

With your support, relief organizations such as Stop Hunger Now have the means to deliver to ongoing school feeding programs that sustain lifelong change. Providing a hot meal during school gives parents an incentive to send their children to school. Through receiving a primary school education, the cycle of poverty can begin to be broken by leveraging change in many other issues including education, maternal health, childhood mortality, gender equality and combating HIV/AIDS.

We currently require that our in-country partners report on the impact of the Stop Hunger Now shipments they received. Our strategic plan recognizes the challenges of getting impact reports from our in-country partners, and we are working to improve that process.

Growing the Movement Around the World

In order to end hunger, we have to create the local capacity to address hunger. Stop Hunger Now is leading the way by being the first organization to bring meal packaging to the countries and regions where we serve. By establishing local meal packaging programs, we are able to use local ingredients, local volunteers and local distribution in a more efficient and effective manner.

The only thing that is better than school feeding programs in the fight against hunger are school feeding programs where the food is sourced locally.

After experiencing rapid growth of the program in the USA, Stop Hunger Now opened its first international meal packaging program branch in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2010. Currently the South Africa program is growing in leaps in bounds and has opened 4 locations, increasing its staff from 1 person to 13. Since the branch opened, Stop Hunger Now South Africa has packaged approximately 5 million meals.

In 2011, Stop Hunger Now organized Meal Packaging Events in Malaysia and the Philippines including an unprecedented 1 million meal event in Kuala Lumpur conducted on October 16th, World Food Day. These events led to the opportunity to establish meal packaging operations in Malaysia, opening its doors in October of 2012.  Stop Hunger Now opened its first branch in Bologna, Italy in January, 2013. And in 2015, we expanded to India and Peru.

The success of the meal packaging programs in the United States, South Africa, Malaysia, Philippines, and Italy, has created interest in expanding the program to reach volunteers throughout the world. Due to this interest, Stop Hunger Now has developed a strategy to best support international expansion in order to further our global mission to end hunger in our lifetime.
